Duke junior Caleb Foster, a 6-foot-5 guard, has a fracture in his right foot and will be sidelined for the “foreseeable future,” coach Jon Scheyer announced Tuesday.

Scheyer added that the Blue Devils would most likely have to make the Final Four for Foster to have a shot at returning this season.

Foster, who underwent surgery on Sunday, suffered the injury during the first half of Saturday’s win over North Carolina. After hobbling to the locker room, he returned to the bench in the second half with a boot on his foot.

The veteran floor general is averaging 8.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists while shooting 44.2 percent from the field and 40.2 percent from three. He helped Duke dominate the regular season, as the program cruised to the ACC title with a 17-1 league record (29-2 overall). The Blue Devils are still the favorite to win the ACC Tournament, which tips off on Tuesday, and a lock to be a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Scheyer also gave an update on 6-foot-11 sophomore center Patrick Ngongba II, who’s been dealing with his own foot injury. The big man will miss the ACC tourney with some lingering soreness, but the team is “hopeful” that he will be ready for the Big Dance. Ngongba is averaging 10.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.1 blocks per game.

Duke’s next game is Thursday in the ACC Tournament Quarterfinals.
