We have had lots of fun and success in this season’s NCAA Tournament. Unfortunately, we don’t have many more games to handicap. But we will look to make the most of the final few games of the season.
Tennessee vs. Michigan – Both Teams Over 68.5 Points (+100) DraftKings
It’s hard to imagine Michigan playing a low-scoring game in this tournament with what we have seen so far. The Wolverines have scored 185 combined points in their past two games. It’s worth noting that those matchups were against two of the fastest-paced teams to be selected for the tournament. They’ll have no issue getting us to this number. Their defense is the scare, as it’s one of the best in the country. That said, all three opponents so far have cleared this number against them. Tennessee cleared this number in 17 of 18 regular-season conference games and every postseason matchup so far. Opposing offenses cleared this number in 12 of 20 conference games against the Wolverines. Even if this matchup is as lopsided as the spread indicates, Tennessee’s offense shouldn’t be an issue.
UConn vs. Duke – Under 133.5 (-105) FanDuel
We don’t always enjoy betting unders, but this is a good matchup for it. Duke is allowing 63.4 points per game, which ranks third in the country; UConn is seventh, allowing 65.0 points per game. Both have some guys who can take over a game with their offense, but that’s not the pace they want to play. All three of the Blue Devils’ games in the NCAA Tournament have cleared this number; UConn’s matchups have played under this in two of three. The Huskies’ defense has gotten after it in nonconference play against the big dogs all season. In their six Power Five matchups before conference play started, they allowed 68.0 points per game. And all six of those opponents made the NCAA Tournament: BYU, Arizona, Illinois, Kansas, Florida and Texas. Dan Hurley seems to have his guys ready to play in the biggest matchups. There’s a good chance Duke is able to limit the Huskies’ scoring, so UConn will have to step it up a notch defensively in this one.
Michigan + Duke Moneyline (-109) DraftKings
This is a simple parlay for Sunday’s matchups, but we don’t see these two losing here. Going with the chalk isn’t always fun, but it’s been the way to go for the past two NCAA Tournaments. Duke and Michigan are the two best teams in the country. Tennessee has had a favorable draw so far in this tournament. We hate to discredit a team that’s made it this far, but beating a Virginia team that was a product of the ACC and Iowa State without Joshua Jefferson isn’t super impressive. The Vols were up and down in SEC play and will see their toughest matchup of the season here. UConn has been one of the best-coached teams every season since Hurley took over. But it doesn’t feel like they have the pieces to get it done over a team as talented as Duke. Caleb Foster’s return was felt in the Blue Devils’ win over St. John’s, as he ignited a crucial run in the second half after they went down double digits.
