The great folks at Hoops HQ summoned me, the Freezing Cold Takes guy, to lay out some of the most inaccurate and unprophetic predictions that were made during 2024-25 college basketball season. I have also listed some commentary from before the season that did not age well but is relevant now.

Be careful what hot takes you tweet! I’m watching.

Make that two times.

Broome will either be first or second in the Wooden Award voting. Auburn did win the SEC and made the Final Four. Whether Bruce Pearl is overrated is subjective, but Auburn is happy to have him.

It is highly likely Texas Tech lost the game because of this guy’s jinx.

When this was posted, Arkansas was up around 13 points over Texas Tech in the Sweet Sixteen with under five minutes left. The Red Raiders rallied to win 85-83 in overtime, preventing Calipari and the Razorbacks from making the Elite Eight.

Tennessee ingloriously ended Kentucky’s season. Convincingly.

Buzz Peterson’s Texas A&M squad lost to Michigan in the second round. Buzz is still a good coach, but no longer for A&M, as he left College Station for Maryland earlier this week.

Clever concept but premature, as No. 10 seed Arkansas upset No. 2 seed St. John’s in the second round.

Drake won its first-round game over Missouri, so this point goes to the experts. I love giving unnamed experts credit.

“I think their first weekend could not be set up better.” Mike Francesa has “mushed” teams before (he has that power).  No. 2 seed St. John’s is the victim here.

Clemson was eliminated in the first round by McNeese; hence it is not winning the whole thing.

Wade did become the next NC State coach, and my guess is that he already had agreed, on the down low, to take the job before this post was even published.

A Kentucky fan wrote this.

Dakich is referring to Derik Queen, who was this season’s Big Ten Freshman of the Year and is likely to be a lottery pick in the NBA Draft this summer. He also hit a spectacular buzzer-beater to defeat Colorado State in the second round. As far as I can tell, Dakich has not acknowledged his error.

Meanwhile, Dusty May revitalized the Michigan program in one fell swoop.

Community note: Not true.

This is an oldie but a goodie. The Big 12 had no idea about Houston. Kelvin Sampson’s Cougars have lost only four total conference games in the two seasons they have been a member. Personally, I feel sorry for the Big 12.

Calipari and Arkansas showed up at Rupp Arena that night and beat Kentucky 89-79, then advanced to the Sweet Sixteen.

Arkansas made the tournament and won two games. Just like Kentucky.

They won 10 SEC games. That’s 10 times more than one game.

Drake won 31 games, the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season and tournament titles, and a first-round NCAA Tournament game.

One can presume Virginia coach Tony Bennett didn’t share Jeff’s confidence. He quit before the 2024-25 season began and the Cavaliers finished 15-17 under interim coach Ron Sanchez.

Most would say losing Mike White and gaining Todd Golden was a net positive for Florida.

Wrong. Rick Pitino completely turned around the St. John’s program. The Red Storm won the Big East regular-season and tournament titles.

The future was dark.  The Miami Hurricanes failed to make the NCAA Tournament in 2024 and won only seven games this season.
