Syracuse is parting ways with head coach Adrian Autry, according to a report from CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein. Autry spent three seasons at the helm, accumulating a 49-48 overall record and failing to reach the NCAA Tournament.
The Orange were eliminated from the ACC Tournament on Tuesday by SMU. They lost six straight games to conclude the 2025-26 campaign, finishing 15-17 (6-12 in league play).
Autry took over for longtime coach Jim Boeheim in 2023. In 47 seasons under Boeheim, Syracuse made 35 NCAA Tournament appearances, reached six Final Fours and won the 2003 national championship. Autry served on Boeheim’s staff from 2011-2023 before assuming the head coaching position. He also played point guard for Boeheim in the early 1990s, starting 116 of 121 games in four years. He still ranks among the school’s all-time leaders in assists and steals.
During Autry’s first season, Syracuse went 20-12 and placed fifth in the ACC. It has been downhill since. The Orange went 14-19 (7-13) in 2024-25, falling to 14th in the conference. Expectations were high heading into this season after the program adjusted its approach, raised its NIL budget and signed a talented transfer class. “This is not the old. And that’s what I’m excited about,” Autry told Hoops HQ during the offseason. “We’ve gone through that time, we’ve adjusted, we’ve adapted, and I think this year’s team and roster is the start of what that new Syracuse basketball is about.”
While the team secured a few impressive wins (Tennessee, California, SMU), it lacked consistency and eventually plummeted in the standings.
