Bryan Hodgson has signed a deal to become the next head coach at Providence, reports ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Hodgson, 38, spent this past season at South Florida, where he led the program to a 25-9 record and its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2012. The eleventh-seeded Bulls lost in their first-round matchup against sixth-seeded Louisville, 83-79, on Thursday.
Prior to joining South Florida, Hodgson was the head coach at Arkansas State for two years, compiling a 45-28 overall record and winning the Sun Belt regular-season title in 2024-25. He has served as an assistant at Fredonia State (2007-10), Jamestown Community College (2010-13), Midland (2013-15), Buffalo (2015-19) and Alabama (2019-23).
Providence fired Kim English last week after back-to-back losing seasons. The Friars went 15-18 (6-13 in Big East play) in 2025-26 despite being picked fourth in the preseason poll. The program has not made the NCAA Tournament since 2023, when Ed Cooley was the coach.
