Providence will cut ties with coach Kim English at the conclusion of the 2025-26 campaign, according to multiple reports. The news was first reported by NJ.com’s Adam Zagoria on Wednesday evening.
English, 37, is in his third season with the program.
It has been a disappointing year for the Friars, who currently sit at seventh in the Big East with a 7-12 league record (14-16 overall). They were picked fourth in the preseason poll after bringing in several prominent transfers. On Wednesday, they got blown out, 78-56, by Marquette (11-19, 6-13), ending a three-game winning streak. They play Georgetown on the road this weekend to wrap up the regular season.
English was hired to replace Ed Cooley, who now coaches the Hoyas, in 2023 following a two-year stint at George Mason. Under his guidance, the Patriots went 34-29. His tenure at Providence got off to a hot start, as the 2023-24 Friars — led by Big East Player of the Year Devin Carter — finished 21-14 and narrowly missed the NCAA Tournament. With Carter gone, the Friars went 12-20 in 2024-25, dropping to eighth in a weak Big East.
Prior to landing his first head coaching job at George Mason, English was an assistant at Tulsa (2015-17), Colorado (2017-19) and Tennessee (2019-21). He played college basketball at Missouri from 2008-12, earning All-Big 12 honors twice. He was drafted 44th overall by the Detroit Pistons in 2012 and had a three-year professional career — split between the NBA and overseas — before transitioning to coaching.
The Big East Tournament tips off Wednesday, Mar. 11, at Madison Square Garden.
