It’s Time For The NCAA To Get Back To Basics
A tweak to the proposed five-in-five eligibility rule could help tilt the balance back towards education in college sports, and improve the NCAA’s legal standing in the process

Dr. Michael J. Sorrell is the longest-serving President in the 154-year history of Paul Quinn College. During his 19 years of leadership, Paul Quinn has become nationally celebrated for its ability to continuously identify innovative ways of addressing the needs of today’s students and their communities.
Fortune magazine named Dr. Sorrell one of the World’s 50 Greatest Leaders. He is the only three-time recipient of the HBCU Male President of the Year Award, has won Education Dive’s Higher Education’s President of the Year award and was listed by Time magazine as one of the “31 People Changing the South". He also has been named “Father of the Year” by the City of Dallas and received the President George W. Bush Institute’s Trailblazer Award.
Michael received his J.D. and M.A. in Public Policy from Duke University and his Ed.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. He received his B.A. in Government from Oberlin College where he captained the men’s varsity basketball team twice and graduated as the school’s fifth all-time leading scorer.
